Proactive

According to a dictionary, proactive means the ability to control a situation by causing something to happen rather than waiting to respond to the situation after it occurs. According to Bateman and Crant, a proactive person is someone who takes action to influence environmental changes. A proactive entrepreneur will first identify the opportunities follow by showing initiatives to make changes before taking action and persevere until they have reached a closure by bringing about meaningful change. But if the entrepreneur doesn’t have the proactive personality they will fail to identify the opportunity and lose the chance to make changes. Cogliser and Brigham say in the Leadership Quarterly Journal that entrepreneur comes directly from the intention of each individual and the actions undertaken subsequently over the time. Zhao in the International Journal of Entrepreneurial Behaviour & Research describes that the intentions for entrepreneurship from a central point in the comprehension of entrepreneurship as they form the first step in the foundation of any business. Furthermore, the entrepreneur can improve themselves by attending seminars; keep update with their industry or world issue that may affect their entrepreneurship process, and by reading the industrial journals, books and magazines. As a conclusion, an entrepreneur that has the proactive personality is the one who succeed in facing challenges and solving the problem they faced. 

Tatparanandam Ananda Krishnan was born on 1st April 1938 in Brickfields, Kuala Lumpur to a Tamil parent that was originated from Sri Lanka, India. He studied at Vivekananda Tamil School in Brickfields and furthers his studies at Victoria Institution in Kuala Lumpur. He then furthers his studies in the University of Melbourne, Australia as a Colombo Plan scholar for B.A. (Honours) degree majoring in political science and he had boarded in the Melbourne suburb of Hawthorn. After that, he had obtained a Masters in Business Administration from Harvard Business School and graduated in 1964. Ananda Krishnan currently owns stakes in Tanjong Public Limited Company which is an investment holding company with subsidiaries involved in power generation (Powertek), gaming (Pan Malaysian Pools), leisure (Tropical Island, and TGV Cinema) and property (67% Maxis Tower). Besides that, he has the business interest in media (Astro, Johnston Press plc.), satellite (MEASAT, SES) oil and gas (Bumi Armada, Pexco) and telecommunications (Maxis, Aircel, Axis, Sri Lanka Telecom).

Ananda Krishnan is a proactive entrepreneur as he has the ability to identify the opportunity and take action to make changes. It was reported that when he was studying for his master, he was also been working on the student newspaper and run a betting operation on the side that helped in developing him into a risk-taker. Ananda Krishnan’s first entrepreneurial venture was a Malaysian consultancy MAI Holdings Sdn Bhd. He later on started as oil trader by setting up the Exoil Trading which went on to purchase oil drilling concessions in various countries. After that, he finds opportunity in other industry such as gambling and gaming in Malaysia, stud farming in Australia, running cartoon animation studios in California and Manila, and making some investments in the private companies from Hong Kong to the Channel Islands. This shows that Ananda Krishnan finding opportunity not only in Malaysia but also in other countries as well. In Malaysia, the early 1990s, he started to involve with the multimedia industry which included the telecommunication companies which are Maxis Communications and MEASAT Broadcast Network Systems and SES World Skies and owns three communication satellites circumnavigating the earth. Besides that, Ananda Krishnan is planning to produce TV Channels which will cater to the Indian market in the United States and Europe countries and also planning to offer TV services featuring Web-based interactivity. This shows he is a very proactive entrepreneur that keeps on finding opportunities to make changes to the world. He doesn’t focus on one industry but involve in much different industry that makes him as the second wealthiest person in Malaysia and 129th in the world rank according to Forbes.
